When Less is More

With a stunning raked timber ceiling and statement blue tiles already defining this airy, open-plan living space, the owners’ brief was for a sleek yet functional free-flowing kitchen to cater to the needs of their busy family.

Maximising storage and benchspace, and including a practical seating area were key considerations, and designer Matthew Eve, of Nobby Kitchens, has cleverly delivered.

In both the kitchen itself and the adjoining dining area, underbench drawers and cupboards line the walls. They are the key to the minimalist look, providing ample space to tuck away cookware and everyday essentials while blending into the space thanks to their Bright White satin colouring, subtle sharknose profile and handle-less detailing.

On request, an ingeniously disguised, custom-designed corner unit has also been incorporated specifically for small appliances, and a generous breakfast bar distinguishes the zone as a gathering space.

Metres of clear Silestone counters in lightly-veined Desert Silver Suede add texture to the space and combine with the timber ceiling and bar stools, a smokey mirrored splashback, painted exposed brickwork and open shelving in the dining area to infuse warmth and character. Quality integrated appliances, a Franke undermount sink and a streamlined angular mixer contribute to practicality.

A far cry from the congested cramped kitchen that once existed here, this easy-clean hub is now clearly intended for efficient, family-friendly living.
